Today the standard by which many are tempted to live by has been lowered. Many justify the lowering of moral standards for believers by saying they are no longer under the law. I believe that sins which contravene the law such as breaking the Ten Commandments are contrary to the sound doctrine of the gospel. In fact the moral standards of the gospel are no different than the moral standards of the law. We must not now imagine that, because we have embraced the gospel, we may now reject the law! While the law is impotent to save us and we have been released from the laws condemnation so that we are no longer under it in that sense. God did send forth his Son to die for us, and now puts His spirit with us, in order that the righteous requirement of the law may be fulfilled in us. There is not antithesis between law and gospel in moral standards which they teach, the antithesis is in the way of salvation, since the law condemns, while the gospel justifies.
